Title: Common acts of visual love

February 24, 2010

In last weeks bulletin I mentioned that our love for the Lord should be “visual”. I must admit, I often wonder how many folks actually read the front page or just bypass it and jump right on to the more interesting stuff that Ms. Carolyn has on the inside. But alas, and to my excitement, I firmly believe that a bunch of folks read last weeks article. Allow me to give you the supporting evidence for such an assumption.

EVIDENCE #1 : During worship services this past Sunday, I made mention of a good family who was in need of some financial assistance. Dick Smith also made a plea, or better yet, issued a challenge on behalf of this family at the end of the service, which I greatly appreciated. After the final “amen” was said and people started filing out past me in the foyer, money seemed to start finding its way into my hand ..... a lot of money. Just as soon as I could shove one bill in my pocket another was placed in my hand. This literally continued with each person that came my direction. I proudly type with a smile on my face, once all was said and done, over $1500 was given to assist this family. I am in continued amazement at the generosity of this awesome body of believers. I want to say on behalf of the family, from the very bottom of my heart, thank you so much for visually showing your love for them. Remember, Jesus says that you actually gave it to him :)

EVIDENCE #2 : After Sunday night worship service, I went out to the parking lot to find that our vehicle had a flat tire. I use the word “had” in the past tense because when I got to the vehicle, I found a group of guys changing the tire in the pouring rain. Angie and I want to say a big thank you to Chris Wright, Stephen Graham, Brian Cost, Michael Harrison and Buddy Chandler. These fellas went completely out of their way to do something that should have been my job. We appreciate so much the visual love we were shown. Hope you all like BBQ, because I see some in your near future :)

I know Fairfield is not a perfect church. I know we have our problems like everyone else. I know that every now and then there is a bump in the road that we have to deal with. I know that we occasionally receive criticism, both constructive and destructive. But I also know this ..... the Church of Christ at Fairfield has some of the most loving, caring, compassionate people on the face of this earth. They are people of “like precious faith” with a mindset of servitude. Do we do everything perfectly? No. Do we do everything with the goal of perfection? I would like to think so. I only gave you two examples above of random acts of visual love. “Random”, by definition at Fairfield, has now become “common”. “Common acts of visual love” ..... maybe that should be our new motto.
