Title: Death and Taxes
It’s coming and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. It is one of the two “sure things” in life....and as long as the other “sure thing” doesn’t happen and the Lord continue to tarry, our standing date with Uncle Sam will be here in a matter of a few days. April 15 has for the longest time been one of those dreaded occasions marked on the calendar of many Americans....at least for those who will owe the “top hat” wearing man some change. I still find it amazing, even with my-self, that like Christmas, it continues to sneak up on us every year at exactly the same time every year. The fact of the matter is....and we all know it.....is that it doesn’t sneak up on anyone. We KNOW that it is on the horizon, yet many of us continue, year after year, putting off the inevitable. We procrastinators seem to relish the undue anxiety and excitement of coming down to the wire un-prepared. Surely there is some therapy out there somewhere for we sickos.
Not unlike having to pay the American Piper, there are even more people who think that judgment day is just another one of those dates on the calendar that will miraculously disappear. Well, if you are in that camp, then let this serve as your notice in the mail....your date with the Maker of the universe is already penciled in the great “end of day planner”. Don’t you realize that God already knows exactly when and how your life will end and that he already knows what word his statement to you will begin with....either “Depart” or “Enter”. Kind of scary isn’t it? Scary or not, it doesn’t make it any less the true. And, as the Bible says, that particular day in your future is quickly approaching.....like it or not.
I am sure that most of you are unlike myself. I am sure most of you have taken care of those dreaded returns and have already done one of two things.... you have gotten the pain over with and sent in your rent or you are well on the way to having all that money you loaned the government spent. Uncle Sam certainly deserves our respect, and yes, even as I hate to admit it sometimes....some of our money. God deserves all of that and so much more. But I guess if we haven’t figured out that one by now, we will get it sooner or later. The problem for some is that “later” may fall on that same day marked on the calender as “judgement”.
Go the extra mile - God
