Title: Be Glad That You're Sad

Be Glad That You’re Sad

Sounds strange doesn’t it. Two complete opposites side by side that are truth. Truth? Yes, truth because of what Jesus said in Matthew 5:4. Here he states, “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Now ask yourself, “What is the blessing here?” Comfort, of course. Now, “Who is giving this comfort?” God Himself, right? Finally, “Who is receiving this comfort?” Is it given to those who are happy? Is it given those who are content? No, it’s given to those who are mourning.
Think of the times that you have encountered comfort. Maybe it was from medicine for a toothache, rest from a day of exhaustion, acceptance in times of vulnerability, or an embrace during a time of loss. During these episodes in life we learn to appreciate comfort, and all that it brings to us. All of these moments of comfort were given to you by whom? Family? Friends? Good Samaritans of faith? Yes, but who sent them at just the right time to say and do just the right things that only the true peace of comfort can bring? It’s your loving Father, of course.
He, God, knows exactly how to bless you at just the right time. Just think, what good is a sunny day if you’re always inside? What good is a cozy fire if it’s the middle of July? What good is your favorite delicacy if you’re already full? So, what good is comfort if you’re already comfortable.
So, the next time you find yourself mourning, remember your Father will give you comfort. It may not come at the exact time, or way, that you want, but it will arrive at just the right time and place. He promises to comfort the mourning. So, be glad that you’re sad.
Thankful for You,
Brandon
