This past Lord’s day could have very easily been called “Retro-Sunday”! Former pulpit minister Mike Kelley lead a beautiful opening prayer and former youth minister Darren Shavers did a marvelous job in bringing the lesson during the worship hour. The Fairfield Church of Christ was blessed to have these two men serve so capably for many years. No doubt, many lives were influenced for the good because of the “Mike & Darren Tag-Team” that Fairfield had for so long. It was a blessing to have them then and it’s a blessing to have them now. Thanks guys.
Brandon Bass, our current youth minister, once again delivered a fine message during the evening service. Brandon has effectively taken the baton from Darren and not missed a step with our young folks. Someone remarked this past Wednesday night about the growth spurt we have experienced in our youth group. Bible classes are filling up and youth activities are well attended. A big thank you goes out to Brandon and Jennifer for a continued “job well done”! We might also say thank you to the youth group itself. Fairfield’s young people are second to none. Part of the reason why so many new young folks are beginning to attend is because our bunch is friendly and fun to be around! Any time you can find a group of youngsters and teen-agers who are willing to extend their hands to others, you better hold onto them because I can assure you, whether in the Church or not, they are few and far between. It is not only a fine testimony of a well-lead youth group, but it also says a lot about a well-lead home. Keep up the good work parents, they’re making us proud.
If a spiritually growing church with lots of new people is not your cup of tea, you might ought to pass us on by. If you like the “church status-quo”, perhaps you should look elsewhere. But...if you want to become part of a church family that is excited about the present and the future, then turn your turn signal on....you are at the right place! We got more stuff going on around here than you can shake a stick at! (you know, I have never understood what that means, but as a true southerner I think I‘m supposed to say things like that) We have officially gone global thanks to Vance Willis, Mary Copley, and Lori & Darin Cochran. Thanks to these computer-savvy folks, you can now keep up with the happenings at this church such as our prayer list, events, photos, men-to-serve, etc. Once fully developed, you will be able to listen to “family-line online” and also access links to all sorts of neat stuff. Our new web address is www.fairfieldchurchofchrist.org. Remember, it’s still under construction, but go check it out today! Other currents projects in the works include a new updated directory, church building and grounds improvements, new recording and media equipment and the list could go on and on. It’s truly a wonderful time in the life of this Church.
Please be making plans to be with us this Saturday, May 5. We will be having a benefit car wash and bake sale for Heather Phillips who was recently involved in an automobile accident. We especially want to make a plea for any who would like to help wash a car or two or maybe bake something that could be used in the bake sale. You can bring any item by the church office or just show up with it on Saturday. The day will begin around 9 am and go until the food’s gone and all the vehicles are washed. Of course, if time does not permit you to bake or get your hands in the suds, any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. Someone once said, “You cannot do a kindness too soon, because you never know how soon it will be too late.” Let’s help Heather all we can. Who’s to say that the next benefit won’t be for one of us?
Go the extra mile - Devin
