Title: June 6, 2007
There is a group of folks that I want you to put on your prayer list for the next few weeks. Chris Wright, Jo Ann and Harry Totty, Angie and myself. Please pray for the unknown pilots of Continental flights 2567, 0076, 0077, and 2825. Please pray for our fellow passengers on these planes that will take us on a round-trip total of 8228 miles to Newport, Wales, and back to Tennessee. (Newport is a couple of hours west of London) Although there are many obvious reasons as to why we would want you to pray for us going on such a trip, there is one that may not be so obvious.....we are going with three teen-agers! Allison Brady, Miles Newsome, and Kaylee Pickard will be the Fairfield youth-group representatives on this journey. Pray that Ipod batteries will be strong, cell-phone batteries will be dead, Dr. Pepper will be in great supply, in-flight movies will be long, and ear-plugs will be abundant!
Seriously, we do covet your prayers as we travel to this mission point on July 21-28 to visit with the Newport Church and assist them with their Vacation Bible School. Sometime ago, our elders decided to help support Paul Halliday and his new wife, Casey Beth, in their ministry in the U.K. Paul has been a good friend of Chris Wright since their days at Lipscomb, and has since become a good friend of the Fairfield Church. He tells us the work there at times can be somewhat trying and difficult, but the fields truly are “white unto harvest”. It is in many ways uncharted waters and unplowed ground. Paul and Casey are doing a great job and the Church there is steadily growing daily. If you get a chance, check out Paul and Casey at www.thehallidays.org.
Naturally, a trip like this doesn’t come cheap. The plane tickets have been purchased and accomodations will be provided by the Newport Church members. We will need to rent a van for the week and of course have money for fuel. Some meals will be provided and some will have to be bought. You probably see where this is going. I pride myself on generally not having to beg, BUT....if you would like to assist our group with some of its expenses, we would be most appreciative. Even the smallest of donations, when added together, can make a huge difference. Of course, if you are not able to assist financially, you can encourage the group with prayer, prayer, and more prayer! Even though everyone can’t physically go, everyone can be there spiritually.
I want to personally thank our elders, Lafayette Spears and Ed Gossett......the mission committee, Gary Wright, Harry Totty, and David Gossett, and our treasurer, Wallace Smith, for giving the 8 of us the opportunity to make this pilgrimmage. I’m especially excited for the 3 young people going. It will be a life-changing experience for us all.
Some of us have never been around people who didn’t say “ya’ll and ain’t”. Some of us have never been around folks who have never heard of Jesus. We will probably experience some of both.
Please pray for us.
