Title: We're Back!
June 9, 2010
It seems like its been a year since we have talked via the bulletin, but hopefully we are back on the road to full computer recovery soon. So much has happened over the last few weeks, beginning with the flood, that it would seem to take a volume of books to review all of the events individually. But I will try to give you a friendly reminder of some of them .....
The obvious starting point is on Saturday, May 2. As the rains began, who could have imagined the record flood that was soon to follow with as much as almost 20 inches of water falling over the span of several hours in some places. Aside from the massive amounts of water, this “1000 year flood” brought with it a tremendous amount of destruction and tragedy with an overwhelming loss of property and at least one perished life. As the waters receded in the days to follow, compassion, friendship, concern and love rose above the highest of floodplains. And, right at the epicenter of the recovery efforts was found the Fairfield Church of Christ and its barely christened new fellowship hall. Countless thousands of people were helped on a daily basis for well over two weeks. And above all, some were perhaps able to see the light of Jesus for the very first time.
This past Monday, two tractor trailers rolled into Centerville full of furniture and bedding. A big thank you goes out to those who helped to unload all of the items and also to Jerrie Wayne Barber and Barber Storage for giving the church a place to store all of it. Mrs. Joyce Boyd, along with the elders, is in charge of the distribution of these items. If you know of anyone who could use some of these things, give Ms. Joyce a call.
This past Sunday was a wonderful time to be a part of the good family at Fairfield. On Sunday morning, Louise Jones and Martha Mayberry came forward for prayers of restoration and also expressed their desire to place membership. On Sunday evening after a heart stirring message from Rodney Rochelle, Rhonda Powers and Lou Dickens responded for prayers of encouragement and Rachael Cook and Kayla Myatt responded to give their lives to the Lord and were baptized. We welcome all of these folks into our midst and give a big “that-a-boy” to Rodney on a job well done!
While some worshiped at the building Sunday evening, many others gathered at the home of Linda and Dick Smith for an afternoon of food, games, swimming, zip line and pony rides, and all sorts of other fun stuff. Another big thank you goes to the Smith family for opening up their home to us. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of our periodic remote Sunday summer evening worships
God sure continues to bless us in every way possible. Let us not forget to thank Him on a daily basis and continue to serve our community like never before. The Duck river doesn't have to come out of its banks for us to do God's Will :)
