Wronged for Doing Right
“God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.”
Matthew 5:10
Sounds strange doesn’t it? Being considered blessed for being persecuted when doing the right thing. If you think that’s strange then think about the one who said, “God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.” Was it Paul the persecuted mouth piece of God? Was it Peter the persecuted “rock” of the Body of Christ? No, it was Jesus the persecuted King of Heaven Himself.
It’s easy to forget that Jesus did the right thing even when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. He associated with tax collectors and other notorious sinners (Matthew 9:10). He talked to a Samaritan woman that no one considered acceptable ((John 4:9). He even suffered a sinner’s death, our death, when He didn’t deserve it, and everyone persecuted Him for it. Jesus reminds us that we, as Heirs to His Kingdom, were called to do right even when it’s not the popular thing to do.
The very One who gave us this truth about being persecuted for doing right is the very One who took our persecution so we can be made right. So, because of that we should do right even if it’s not popular for we have been given the Kingdom of Heaven. So, let us remember this the next time we are wronged for doing right.
Thankful for You,
Brandon
