I am sure this will come as a shock to most of you, but here it goes. I aint building any rockets, operating on anybodys brain, or splittin an atom anytime soon. Now that youve picked yourself up off the floor, continue reading. I am satisfied that the Fairfield Church of Christ DOES have some folks who could do all of the above, perhaps in the same day. Walter A. Brown Jr. was one of those people. I wished I would have had the opportunity to have known Mr. Brown better. I understand that he was a true Biblical scholar and student of the Word. Unlike most, Bro. Brown was able to delve far below the surface of the waters of Scripture. Mr. Brown developed a special interest in the subject of the Holy Spirit. He helped compile information and gave much commentary in a book entitled, A Study of the Holy Ghost (Spirit). The books other author, Ernest L. Walker, said this about Bro. Brown in the introduction.......

I am taking the privilege of recognizing some very important work that has been done by brother Walter A. Brown who is very close to me. He is A MAJOR contributor to this work. He is an encouragement to me in this work and in other works in which I am engaged. He has contributed many ideas and many of the actual comments and questions in this work. If I may state my opinion: he is to be commended for his sincere and honest approach to Bible study. He is one who will allow the plain passages in the holy scriptures to interpret those more difficult scriptures. There is nothing wrong in giving honor and credit to whom honor and credit are due, 1 Peter 2:17. I consider it a genuine pleasure to have worked with him on this great subject!

Mr. Brown was a farmer by trade for most of his life. No doubt, he understood what it was to have feast and to have famine. He knew what it was for the ground to yield forth plenty. He knew what it was for the soil to give up nothing. He knew the bad and he knew the good. Such is the life of a farmer. Such is the life also of a Christian. I am satisfied he planted as many spiritual seeds as he ever did any other kind. The Lord spoke a parable in Matthew 13 that could have very easily been about Bro. Walter. You know the one....stoney soil, thorny soil, good soil. I bet many folks are Christians today because Walter took the time to plant a seed.

Brother Brown was well respected and highly thought of around here. So much so, that a group of men, usually two at a time, would go to the Brown home to help get him in the bed every night. This went on for the last several months. Gary Basford, Larry Buchannan, Phil Coates, Harry Totty, and Wayne Baker, among others, were very faithful in their attendance to the Browns. I know that Ms. Sarah was very appreciative for all their efforts. These men would not have gone out of their way for a man and a family that they did not love greatly. You can always tell the impact that you have on others, by the way they treat you. Mr. Brown practiced the golden rule in his life. In the end, it came full circle back to him.

Go the extra mile - Devin
