Title: High Def
High Definition television is great. In fact, a teen-ager might say that “it's the bomb”. Up to just a few months ago I figured HD couldn't be that big of a deal. I mean, really ..... who cares if you can see the 4 day whisker growth on the face of the quarterback of your favorite football team or which way the grain is laying on the 17th green at Sawgrass? Who cares if you can count the grains of sand on a beach in Hawaii or see the teeth of a monkey more clearly? Who cares? Well, now I do. I know it seems silly to some as it once did to me, but now that I have entered the amazing world of High Definition, it's predecessor, Standard Definition, seems no better than watching old “I Love Lucy” reruns on a 19 inch black and white Zenith. I am officially ruined.
I could throw out all kinds of terms associated with High Definition Television .....
Frame size in pixels is defined as number of horizontal pixels × number of vertical pixels, for example 1280 × 720 or 1920 × 1080. Often the number of horizontal pixels is implied from context and is omitted.
Scanning system is identified with the letter p for progressive scanning or i for interlaced scanning.
Frame rate is identified as number of video frames per second. For interlaced systems an alternative form of specifying number of fields per second is often used.
Rather than going into a lengthy discussion about what makes High Definition, well, High Definition, suffice it to say that the difference is clear. No, I mean that is just it ..... It's clear. It is my understanding that in many ways, High Def television is filmed with more clarity and definition than the human eye can see alone. Now, radio stations are going HD. You have to wonder ..... where will it ever end?
All this HD talk got me to thinking about the Bible. As you survey the Word of God, you will find some passages that are clear as mud and gray as a fall day in Seattle. On the other hand, you will also find many, many parts spoken by God through his inspired writers that are as clear as spring water and as understandable as kindergarten math. It seems to me that the Creator of the world wants nothing more than for all of mankind to be able to spend eternity with Him. And though that is his desire, God tells us in the Bible through His Son that there will only be a few who will actually be in the presence of the Almighty when forever begins. I firmly believe that God has made those things that pertain to our salvation as clear to us in His Word as the best picture in 1080p on a 60 inch plasma. The fundamentals of our faith can be seen unhindered in Biblical HD. The duty of man as it relates to his desire to get to heaven can found with relative ease and clarity. Why would a loving Father make it difficult for His children to find their way back home to Him? Why would he not give us specific directions to heaven? We cannot argue with the absolutes of the Bible. We can argue that they don't fit our lifestyles or the way we desire to conduct our days here on this earth, but we can't argue that they are not in plain sight. Let's spend our days seeking to find those principles and live them out to the best of our ability and leave the rest to the grace of our HD ..... High Deity.
